Publishing a Book THINKTANK: Phase Two

If you missed out on phase one of this THINKTANK series you can check out the post HERE.

For those of you reading this blog for the first time or if you need a reminder the THINKTANK blogs are self starter projects that I am working on and building from the ground up.

I show you in phases the processes of my creations and activities and what is working and not working.

The goal is for you to be able to get better grasp on how to create things for this world, focus on people and purpose in your digital marketing, understand what can be turned into passion projects/side hustles/full on businesses, and ultimately you getting to create a lifestyle around fulfilling work that impacts the world in a positive way!

Over the next 30 days I will be editing my book with the support of my awesome book editor Hapy!  Writing a book requires you to do all of the things that Jim Valvano states in the above picture I believe...every single day you are doing it!  There's laughter, thought, and a few tears!

Here’s what else I will be working during that time to ensure that my new books is ready for a fall launch.

  1. Cover.  Even if you are self publishing just an E book you get to create a cover.  I had my graphic designers work on the covers for each of my last two books and I’ll be once again starting that process in July.
  2. Foreword/Intros.  Books often have a foreword or intro written by somebody who you respect, trust, and has played a large role of influence in the development of your book.  My friend Don the Idea Guy wrote a foreword in my first book.  This time I have chosen to get a quote from the five individuals I have worked for since college.  I will be reaching out to each of them and asking the same question and inserting their answers into my book.  All five of these individuals are still mentors to me in my life and I am excited to feature some words of wisdom from each of them.  I wouldn’t be where I am in my life without these five folks!
  3. Sketches.  Speaking of the Don the Idea Guy…he will be a part of this book and be contributing sketches for each of the seven sections of the book.  He’s a wonderful artist and I can’t wait to see what he will be creating.  We will be meeting to discuss the sketch ideas, the layouts, and eventually the final proofs to be inserted as part of the book.
  4. Promotional opportunities.  I’ll be creating a working document for all of my promotional opportunities for my book launch.  From social media marketing to speaking at my Toastmasters club to guest blog posts to speaking gigs promoting the book the time leading up to your launch and the actual launch are a vital time for the book to get itself spread out into the world as much as possible.  It takes a lot of work and small yet vital promotional opportunities all coming together to make it a special launch.

That’s my next 30 days in preparation of the self publishing of my 3rd book!

In phase three of this series I’ll highlight in more detail what the book editing process looks like and how everything is coming along with these four steps.
