Tribe of Mentors Questions Answered by ME

Head this way with me to get a little taste of what the Tribe of Mentors questions were!

Last week I wrote a post HERE on my key takeaways from the book Tribe of Mentors.
In this book Tim takes the reader through a series of questions he asked over 200 people in this world he would love to have as mentors.
The questions that he asked everyone are below and as a pre-read exercise I answered the questions for myself.  I would recommend you giving it a stab as well.
They are not all softball questions and they'll get your mind working I believe.

  1. What is the book I have gifted the most? Born to Run by Chris McDougall!

  2. What one to three books have influenced my life the most? Why now is the time to crush it by Gary Vaynerchuk, Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss, and Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer.

  3. What purchase of $100 or less has most positively impacted my life in the last six months? A spikey ball to rub my feet and the Whole 30 Cookbook.

  4. How has a failure set me up for success later? I took a gig leaving a radio station a few years ago and it was the first time I was fired and told my performance wasn’t cutting it.  It gave me a deep insight into what I was doing, why I was doing it, and what I wanted to do next. I really can’t see any failure that I have had if I have chosen to analyze and review that didn’t teach me something about myself for the future that I could use for impact.

  5. If I could have a gigantic billboard anywhere what would it say? "Tell me...what is it you plan to do with your one special and precious life?" Quote from Mary Oliver.

  6. What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments i have ever made? Good form running class at Front Runner that removed any running injuries and has allowed me to run 2 Marathons and 8 Half Marathons, $39.00 unlimited summer membership to YOHI Grandview that opened me up to yoga as a daily practice, the 90 plus hours/7 days I spent attending Discovery/Breakthrough trainings, $1,000.00ish for the last 7 years of Toastmasters dues, and Dan Harris’s book 10% Happier to begin meditating every day.

  7. What is an unusual habit that I love? I start every morning with 55 Burpees and 55 chakra deep breaths (think the exercise at the end of a Bikram Yoga class) in the morning to start the day!

  8. In the last five years what new behavior has improved my life? Giving more money away, volunteering more than I ever have, and truly embracing the urgency of life.

  9. What advice would you give to a college student or someone about to enter the real world? Get some side hustles you love, don’t overthink your first job it's really not that important because our generation will have TONS of gigs, and make sure you have fun!

  10. What are bad recommendations I hear in my industry? Build an email list, just put up a pop up for it and sign ups will come easily, then give them a free gift, and sell people an online course. (Way harder than it seems!) Get a bunch of amazon reviews and do contests to get them, that’s actually illegal.

  11. In the last five years what have you become better at saying no at? Everything honestly but still a work in progress.  If it doesn’t align with my larger goals for the year I get to pass.

  12. When I feel overwhelmed or unfocused what do I do? Go for a walk, hike, read, or meditate.
